Sequim man dies after garbage truck collision

A Sequim man died Monday afternoon, Aug. 8, after he was struck by a garbage truck, reports Sequim Police Department.

Sgt. Carolee Edwards said Thomas Roy Allen, 71, was struck on the 100 block of West Silberhorn Road while he was cycling down the road from his home.

An Olympic Disposal System garbage truck was traveling eastbound on the road and started to back up in the roadway when it hit Allen around 12:24 p.m., Edwards said.

The truck driver is not suspected of any criminal activity, and Edwards, a drug recognition expert, ruled out impairment, she said.

Trooper Katherine Weatherwax said they’re providing Sequim Police technical assistance through the incident investigation. Allen’s next of kin was notified later in the afternoon, Edwards said.

A detailed incident report by investigators was unavailable by press time.
