Sequim woman found guilty of embezzlement

Marie Lynette Barnett of Sequim, pled guilty Nov. 6 to first degree felony theft in the embezzlement of more than $18,000 from her employer, according to court records.

 

A probable cause statement accused the former bookkeeper of the Sequim branch of Jace Real Estate of writing 19 business checks to herself and signing the owner’s name without permission between July 2012 and May 2013. Barnett also wrote four checks for her personal rent, also without permission.

 

Barnett was sentenced to 90 days in jail, but Judge Erik Rohrer converted 45 days to electronic home monitoring, with restitution ordered, according to documents filed in court.
