Sheriff’s Office honors top volunteers

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office held its 2014 Awards Recognition Dinner on Saturday, April 25, lauding key employees along with 113 volunteers who gave 10,819 hours of service to the Sheriff’s Office and their community in 2014.

Corrections Deputy Nathan Clark received the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Employee of the Year Award.

Amateur Radio Emergency Services Volunteer William Carter was named the CCSO 2014 Volunteer of the Year. CCSO Volunteer Parker Stoops was named the 2014 Search and Rescue Volunteer of the Year.

Meritorious Service Awards included Detective Brian Knutson, Deputy Jeff Waterhouse, administrative specialist Idona Baumann, fiscal specialist Jackie Koon and administrative coordinator Lorraine Shore.

These awards are given to a member or non-member of the department for service in a duty of great responsibility, the duty reflecting excellence in such performance in going above and beyond the person’s normal duty.

Commendation Awards included Sgt. Lyman Moores, Deputy Jeff Waterhouse and civil Deputy Kaylene Zellar. These awards are given to individuals, members or non-members of the department or organizations for excellence in the performance of duty or excellence in the performance of duty or excellence in the performance of duty or excellence in a specific assigned duty, or for improving conditions within the agency or community.

U.S. Postal Service employee Max Fernandez received the Sheriff’s Commendation Award for directly contributing to saving the life of a Forks resident. Fernandez checked in on a resident who had not picked up her mail and helped her receive medical care for pneumonia, severe dehydration and diabetic coma at Forks Community Hospital.

Sheriff’s Office representatives say these hours have a dollar value of $297,953. Volunteers serve in several areas including search and rescue; community policing; amateur radio emergency services; emergency management; chaplain team; cold case investigations; reserve deputies and code enforcement.

In 2014, 36 volunteers earned a President’s Volunteer Service Award. To earn an award, each person volunteered at least 100 hours to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
