Update: Missing 10-year-old boy found ‘safe and sound’

Update at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 16

A missing boy was found safe April 16 near Blue Mountain Road after being reported missing the night before.

Clallam County Sheriff’s Office report that 10-year-old Mason Combs was found at 12:47 p.m. inside an outdoor playhouse on the front porch of his residence.

Sheriff Brian King wrote in a press release that searchers believe the boy had

been avoiding detection from his family and search teams as the playhouse had been

searched several times prior to his discovery.

Sheriff deputies were dispatched at 9:27 p.m. April 15 near Blue Mountain Road and U.S. Highway 101 of a report of a missing boy.

King said the boy had been playing with friends but had not returned home to take his medication.

Due to his medical challenges, deputies conducted a hasty search of the area and Combs’ residence that night without success, King said.

Clallam and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Offices conducted drone searches of the area and 44 volunteers searched for the boy, including Clallam County Search and Rescue (SAR), and additional professional search and rescue assets from Clallam County, Jefferson County, Island County, Pierce County, King County, the United States Border Patrol, Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, Olympic Mountain Rescue, several canine teams, and a King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter.

King expressed his thanks to the Sheriff’s offices, volunteers, and organizations who assisted with the search.
