The first of four public hearings on the draft Shoreline Master Program (SMP) hosted by members of the county’s planning commission is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., today, Feb. 4, at the John Wayne Marina, 2577 West Sequim Bay Road.

The regional hearings are intended to provide planning commission members ample opportunity to receive feedback from county residents on the updated plan.

The nine-member, volunteer advisory panel, can thus use the information gathered during the regional hearings to make a draft recommendation to the board of county commissioners.

The November 2014 draft is an updated version to the county’s nearly 40-year-old SMP.

Depending on the size and flow of the waterbody, it applies to lakes, rivers, streams, marine waters, areas within 200 feet of the ordinary high water mark or floodway of such water bodies and associated wetlands, floodplains and critical areas.
