The Washington State Department of Transportation announced last week that the speed limit along 1.35 miles of U.S. Highway 101 east of Sequim will be permanently reduced from 50 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour.
The affected highway segment is on the southern tip of Sequim Bay and extends from 0.24 miles northwest of Corriea Road to 0.15 miles northeast of Chicken Coop Road.
The speed reduction is the result of a traffic study conducted by WSDOT prompted by safety concerns from the local community.
The lowered speed limit will be enforceable as soon as the signs are posted, currently scheduled for July 31.
