In the aftermath of the dismissal of Lee Lawrence on Jan. 18, the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce is pushing forward with its plan to find another executive director.

As promised, the chamber placed a three-page job description on its Web site on Jan. 25.

According to chamber president Joe Borden, the job description has not been altered since Lawrence applied for the job in 2007. The chamber board is reviewing résumés of the 27 applicants Lawrence beat out for the position six months ago.

Borden says that the chamber plans to reconnect with some of these past applicants to see if they’re still interested in the position.

The chamber’s mission and vision is to advance and promote area businesses, working as an advocate for Sequim’s businesses by campaigning to bring businesses into Sequim and supporting the businesses that are already here.

One of the director’s many duties is to be “the principal spokesperson and ambassador” for the chamber.

The job description includes that a candidate must have “vision and planning skills,” office skills, be able to stand, walk frequently and be able to lift up to 30 pounds, as well as “be pro-active with county, city and tribal organizations.”

Borden says he would like to see someone hired with marketing experience. The applicant is not required to live in Sequim.

As stated in the position’s description, “The executive director will serve as a leader in the community and will play a key role in communicating the chamber’s image and direction for the future. He/she will work to maintain effective and professional relationships with members of local and state government as well as other agencies.”

That means in addition to chamber functions, such as luncheons and after-hours events, the future executive director will be expected to attend meetings of some six committees throughout Sequim and Clallam County.

According to Borden, the cut-off date for submitting résumés is Feb. 29. A three-person committee will review résumés and conduct interviews. Borden hopes to have a new director in place by March.
