Two deceased individuals found in Sequim apartment complex

Sequim Police Department officers discovered two deceased people in the late afternoon of Thursday, Feb. 2, after they responded to a welfare check at Mountain View Apartments on the 300 block of South Fifth Avenue.

Deputy chief Mike Hill said on Feb. 3 that officers were attempting to notify both next of kin for the individuals before identifying a 51-year-old male and a 57-year-old female.

“It’s too soon to tell their cause of death,” Hill said, as there “weren’t any obvious signs of trauma.”

Autopsies are tentatively scheduled for Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, which will determine which direction the investigation goes, he said.

“By policy, any death we investigate is investigated as a homicide until it’s proven not,” Hill said.

Sequim Police, Clallam County Fire Department 3 firefighters/paramedics and the Clallam County Coroners’ Office responded to the scene.

Hill said no signs of death were obvious and that the residence was secure when they arrived around 4 p.m.

Police were alerted to the residence at a family member’s request for a welfare check as they hadn’t heard from them in a few days, Hill said.

The man and woman are both believed to live in the same apartment, he said.

Cause of death results are tentatively anticipated later this week, Sequim Police report.
