United Way celebrates an anniversary this fall — 60 years of local, volunteer-led efforts which have raised significant resources and improved many community conditions.

The United Way theme this year is “60 Years And Growing.”

The Campaign Cabinet, a key group of volunteers, is planning for the 2012 Annual Fund Drive, with a goal of $1,060,000. Mary Ann Unger, recently retired vice principal of Port Angeles High School, is the 2012 campaign chairman.

“I hope that our very giving community members will join me in supporting a ‘super’ successful fund drive this year,” Unger said.

“When our community works together we are so much more powerful than our efforts alone. And when we combine our charitable giving through United Way, we can make a huge difference in strengthening our communities.”

The Port Angeles business campaign is led by Buck Gieseke of Integrity One Home Mortgage Inc. Julie Sell is chairman of the Olympic Medical Center campaign.

Patty Rosand and Iva Burks lead the Clallam County employee effort. Brown Maloney will serve as chairman of the Olympic Club leadership giving portion of the campaign. Nina Pitts from Peninsula College is coordinating the Washington State Combined Fund drive.

For smaller communities, Pat Soderlind conducts the Forks campaign, Dave Bingham leads the Joyce campaign and Patricia Hutson guides the Clallam Bay/Sekiu project.

Norm Schaaf of Merrill & Ring directs the Corporate Gifts Committee. The annual Day of Caring event, to be held this year on Saturday, Sept. 8, is led by Patrick Downie.

T. Scott Brandon, new United Way staffer and resource development manager, assists all the volunteers in the campaign.
