Doris Pearson

Doris Fosbrooke Pearson, 99, passed away from natural causes on August 22, 2014 in Sequim, Washington.

??Mrs. Pearson was born to Henry and Mary Jane (Hazlett) Fosbrooke in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada in 1914.

??She earned a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, where she was captain of the varsity basketball team and lifetime vice president of her graduating class.

Mrs. Pearson did post graduate studies in Dietetics in St, John, New Brunswick, Montreal, Quebec and at Columbia University in New York.

While serving as Head Dietician at Saint John General Hospital, Mrs. Pearson met Doctor Murble H. Pearson of Spearman, Texas. They were married on February 3, 1940 in Dillon, Montana, where Dr. Pearson served prior to being called to service in the US Army. During World War II, Mrs. Pearson was Head Dietician at Harris Memorial Hospital in Waco, Texas.

As the wife of a career Army surgeon, Mrs. Pearson moved often and served in many volunteer positions at several military posts in the US. In 1960, the family retired to San Antonio, Texas, where Mrs. Pearson continued to live following her husband’s death in 1975. While in San Antonio, she enjoyed entertaining her many Army friends, playing duplicate bridge, horseback riding, swimming, and traveling. Doris was gracious and generous to everyone, a beloved aunt to her husband’s eleven siblings and their children, and a doting Grandmother, with a never failing sense of humor.

??In 2006 Mrs. Pearson moved to Sequim with her daughter, Mary Bettcher, and son-in-law, James Bettcher. She was a resident of the Sherwood Assisted Living facility.

Mrs. Pearson is survived by two daughters, Victoria Pearson (Sam Knox) Reed, of Hinsdale, Illinois, and Mary Pearson (James Robert) Bettcher, of Sequim; and four grandchildren, Sam Henry (Abigail) Reed, Daniel Martin Reed, Jonathan Pearson (Brianne) Bettcher, and Jaime Marie Bettcher; and one great-grandchild, Anna Kathryn Reed.

She was preceded in death by Dr. Murble H. Pearson, her husband of 36 years; and her only sibling, Edmond Fosbrooke, of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

Mrs. Pearson will be interred next to Dr. Pearson in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at ALZ.org are suggested.

Doris’ family deeply appreciates the loving care provided to Doris in Sequim by the staff of Sherwood Assisted Living, and the Korean Women’s Association.
