The months-long layoff hasn’t seemed to phase the Wolves.
Sequim’s baseball squad scored 22 runs in two non-league games to go 2-0 in their first week of the 2016 season.
On March 16, Sequim bullied opposing pitchers for 10 runs in the first three innings to knock off the 3A Shelton High Climbers, 11-3.
Evan Hurn capped a seven-run third inning for the Wolves with a grand slam to lead the way.
Sequim took advantage of some wild Shelton pitching, drawing six walks and stealing seven bases; Austin Hilliard was responsible for three thefts alone.
James Grubb got the win, striking out five and giving up three runs (two earned over three innings). Hilliard and Gavin Velarde combined for four scoreless, hitless innings of relief.
A day later, Sequim’s Daniel Harker had three hits — including a two-run home run — while Hurn tripled, Grubb rapped three singles and both Velarde and Ethan Richmond had three steals in an 11-1 rout of 1A foe Chimacum.
Nigel Christian got the win for Sequim, tossing four innings of one-hit, one-run ball. He struck out two and walked two.
Harker, who drove in three runs, added a pair of scoreless innings on the mound, striking out four Cowboys. Hilliard notched a scoreless seventh inning.
Lane Dotson drove in the lone Chimacum run in the fourth inning to close the game to 3-1, but the Wolves tallied five runs in the fifth to break the game open.
Sequim was scheduled to take on Coupeville on March 22 — results were not available at press time.
The Wolves are at Klahowya (Silverdale) on March 23, Bremerton on March 25 and Rochester on March 28 before their next home game, a March 29 matchup with North Kitsap.
