Boys basketball: Sequim gets league wins, eyes playoff berth

Two more Olympic League victories has Sequim’s boys basketball squad in third place among the league’s 2A schools heading into the final week of the regular season.

With the wins, the Wolves improved to 6-6 in Olympic League play and 8-10 overall heading into a key home match-up with fourth place Olympic on Jan. 31; results were not available at press time.

On Jan. 27, Keenan Green hit three 3-pointers and led the Wolves with 14 points as Sequim capped its road campaign with a 66-60 win over Kingston.

Zach Thompson and Isaiah Moore each scored 10, while Vince Carrizosa scored nine and Charlie Grider seven.

Three days earlier at home, Thompson and Grider each scored 16 points — with Grider tallying 16 on his 16th birthday — as the Wolves walloped North Mason 64-44.

The Wolves got up on North Mason 21-11 after the first quarter and never looked back. Cole Smithson went 5-for-5 from the free-throw line and scored nine points, while Carrizosa scored eight.

Grider added seven rebounds and Thompson four assists. Moore had four steals.

Despite winning by 20, the Wolves made just one 3-pointer all game (by Garrett Little). They got to the free-throw line 29 times, however, making 17. They had 14 steals and forced 25 North Mason turnovers.
