Boys basketball: SHS earns league wins against Olympic, Kingston

Sequim High’s boys basketball squad swept a pair of Olympic League foes in closely-contested games last week, improving to 3-3 in league play heading into their match-up against rival Port Angeles this week.

Sequim was scheduled to host rival Port Angeles on Jan. 10; results were not available at press time.

The Wolves got big games from Zack Thompson, Isaiah Moore and Vince Carrizosa, and hit eight of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to upend Kingston 70-56 on Jan. 3.

Sequim held a slim (33-30) lead at halftime but managed to increase their lead to 52-43 after three quarters.

Thompson had 13 of his game-high 19 points in the second half, including five free throws in the final frame, to clinch the league victory.

Moore had 14 points and Carrizosa added 12.

Dakota Standley led Kingston with 16 points.

Two days later, Sequim held a 12-11 lead after one quarter and held on in a 53-47 win at Olympic.

Vincent Carrizosa led eight Sequim scores with 15 points, while Cole Smithson hit three key field goals and scored all six of his points in the fourth quarter.

Moore, Thompson and Keenan Green each had eight points in the win.

Jaden Bluitt (12 points) and Tristan Bluitt (10) paced the Trojan offense.

SHS slips in non-leaguer

The Wolves came back from a 25-7 first quarter deficit to have a chance to tie with a few seconds left but came up short in a 57-54 loss to visiting Bellingham in a non-league game on Jan. 7.

Ian O’roraty paced the Bayhawks (5-6) with 18 points.

Thompson led Sequim with 14, sinking 10-of-13 from the line, and had a team-high five assists. Carrizosa had 11 points, sinking three 3-pointers, and Kennan Green added 10 points and three steals.

Wolves fall to Sumner

Sumner, a 4A team, jumped out to a 21-8 lead after one quarter and 45-20 lead by halftime and cruised to a 78-47 win at Sequim on Dec. 30 to end the Wolves’ three-game Winter Break schedule.

SHS guard Vincent Carrizosa sank five 3-pointers and scored 25 points in the loss.

Charlie Grider had six and Keenan Green added five for the Wolves.

Kaden Kastberg had 20 points for the Spartans.

The Wolves are at Bainbridge on Jan. 10 and host Bremerton on Jan. 17.
