No letdown here.

After edging rival Everett on Oct. 3, Peninsula’s women earned a pair of big wins against North Division opponents last week.

On Oct. 10, the Pirates (8-1-0 in conference play, 13-1-0 overall) got three scores in each half in a dominating, 6-0 shutout of Whatcom at Sigmar Field in Port Angeles.

Audrey Barnham had two goals while Elizabeth Hornsey, Ellie Small, Myu Ban and Lexi Krieger added one score apiece as Peninsula recorded its conference-best 11th shutout of the season.

Michele Whan led the team with two assists.

Peninsula knocked off struggling Skagit Valley on Oct. 7 in a game marred by a late-game injury.

The Pirates overwhelmed the host Cardinals 6-0, getting five scores in the first 35 minutes.

Hoku Afong opened the scoring at the two-minute mark and Brenda Torres-Hernandez added another at nine minutes, both off Krieger assists.

Ban set up Bri Jackson-Vallente for the third score while Barnham set up scores for Olivia Moore and Coby Yoshimura at 28th and 34th minutes, respectively.

Moore added a goal at 49 minutes, with Kendall Howell notching the assist.

“We moved the ball well from side to side and were pretty efficient in front of the goal,” Peninsula coach Kanyon Anderson said.

Coaches and referees agreed to forgo the final 20 minutes of the game after a Skagit player sustained a severe leg injury.

“We are wishing her a quick and full recovery,” Anderson said.

Peninsula is at Edmonds on Oct. 14 and Shoreline on Oct. 17 before a showdown with rival Everett on the road on Oct. 21.

Men fall to Whatcom

With wind and rain wreaking havoc on the play, the visiting Whatcom Orcas upended North Division leader Peninsula 3-0 in Port Angeles on Oct. 10.

Orca Blake Crutchfield opened the scoring at 15 minutes and Uriel Herrera and Kevin Miranda added insurance scores in the second half, with all three goals getting past backup PC keeper Josh Heckenlively, who made six saves in defeat.

Whatcom keeper Hector Gutierrez tallied seven saves to record a shutout.

The Pirates get a chance for revenge on Oct. 28 when the teams play in Bellingham.

On Oct. 7, the host Skagit Valley Cardinals did what no other team could to Peninsula’s Pirates: hold them scoreless.

Unfortunately for Skagit, they couldn’t break through PC’s defense either.

The squads played to a scoreless draw on a rainy Oct. 7 matchup in Mount Vernon.

Nick Johnson had a pair of diving saves — one in each half — to help PC record its sixth shutout of the campaign. He had five saves overall.

Adriano Terenzi had seven saves in recording Skagit’s second shutout of the season.

Peninsula’s best chance to break the stalemate came in the second half came from a corner kick when Joe Sorensen headed the ball down across the box only for it to hit another Peninsula player and deflect just over the crossbar.

Peninsula played the final 15-plus minutes down a player after Salvador Vargas picked up a red card, but the Cardinals’ Julio Vera was removed from the game 11 minutes later to even the playing field at 10-on-10.

The Pirates are at Edmonds on Oct. 14, at Shoreline on Oct. 17 and at Everett on Oct. 21.
