Fastpitch: Sequim shuts out Spartans, improves to 3-0

That Sequim softball juggernaut is back on the diamond.

Sequim’s Wolves improved to 3-0 with a pair of non-league routs on the road this past weekend,whitewashing Sehome 15-0 and romping over Anacortes 26-10 on March 19 in Anacortes.

Sequim opened the season with a 12-0, five-inning shutout of 1A Forks on March 18, highlighted by a line-drive home run from left fielder Amelia Pozernick.

“I’m really pleased with the way they hit the ball today,” Sequim coach Mike McFarlen said.

Angel Wagner earned the win.

“Angel pitched really good,” McFarlen said.

In those three games, SHS catcher Christy Grubb is batting 9-of-11 (.818) with five doubles and a triple, and Pozernick has seven hits in nine at-bats (.778), with a two home runs. Katelyn Glass also has seven hits in nine at-bats with four doubles, and Hannah Bates is hitting .583 (7-of-12) in those same three games. Addie Smith, who is hitting .455, had three doubles and a triple over the three-game stretch.

As a team, the Wolves are hitting .596 (56-of-94) in their three wins.

Sequim was scheduled to host Bainbridge on March 22. The Wolves are at Bremerton on March 24 and Central Kitsap on March 26

Sequim hosts North Kitsap on March 29 and play at North Mason on March 31, before pausing for Spring Break.
