Girls bowling: Kayser, Updike tied for 37th at state tourney

Same team, same state scores.

Sequim’s Morgan Kayser and Nikoline Updike finished their 2022-2023 bowling seasons at the prep finals last week, bowling identical scores of 799 over six games to tie for 37th overall at the state 1A/2A state tournament in Tukwila on Feb. 4.

Updike, a sophomore who placed 41st at state as a freshman last season, bowled her best in the third game with 165 pins.

Kayser, a junior making her state tourney debut, bowled a 150 in her second game.

SHS head coach Randy Perry said the Sequim teammates had a good time hanging out with Port Angeles state qualifiers Abby Robinson and Paige Pangaro. Robinson bowled a 969-pin series, good for 19th overall, while Pangaro took 35th with 817 pins.

WF West took the team title with Columbia River second, R.A. Long third and Olympic League champion Klahowya in fourth.

Klahowya’s Lucy Mithcell placed second overall, one spot behind WF West’s Piper Chalmers.
