Girls bowling: Riders take rivalry match

Port Angeles won a league match-up on Dec. 4 that was a kind of home game for both teams, topping Sequim 5-2.

Abby Robinson led the Roughriders with a 164-pin first game to top the Wolves 689-587, despite a strong game from SHS’s Nikoline Updike (140) in the match played at Laurel Lanes, the home venue for both teams.

Sequim bounced back with a 652-637 win in game two, led by Morgan Kayser’s 165 pins and Updike’s 156.

Port Angeles, however, topped the Wolves 117-95 and 159-110 in the Baker games and won 1602-1444 in total pins.

Kimberly Heintz had a 251-pin series for the Wolves.

Three days later, a shorthanded Sequim team fell 7-0 at home to league powerhouse Klahowya.

Updike led the team with a 314-pin series, 153 in the first game and 161 in the second. The Eagles won 712-572 and 650-573 in the regular games, and 137-103 and 155-92 in the Baker games.

Sarah Alhaddad posted strong games for the Wolves with 125 and 116 pins, respectively, while Kayser had a 129-pin second game.

Sequim (3-6) was scheduled to bowl at North Mason on Dec. 12 — results were not available at press time.

The Wolves are back on the lanes on Jan. 4 at home against Olympic.
