Prep Golf: SHS girls clinch Oly league title

Priest and Shea shoot season highs for boys; McMenamin leads girls

Sequim’s best golf seems to be coming at the end of the season just in time for a state push.

Last week, the boys and girls won their lone league match with the girls cementing another Olympic League Championship.

The boys (5-2) and girls (7-0) hosted Bremerton on April 28 at The Cedars at Dungeness with some of the boys shooting their lowest scores of the year — Jack Shea went for 34 (2-under-par), followed by Travis Priest at 37, Jade Arnold at 42, and Josiah Carter at 45. Alex McCracken also shot a 43.

The boys won 156-199, their lowest team score of the year. Hunter Bradley led the Knights by shooting a 43.

Sequim girls won with a season high 111-74 points over the Knights led by Alex McMenamin shooting a 39 followed by Kailee Price (46), Sarah Shea (47), and Kelly Anders and Brianna Kettel (49).

Tucker Alexander led the Knights with a 48.

The girls look to keep their winning streak going by hosting the Klahowya Eagles on Wednesday. The boys traveled to Olympic on Monday and also host Klahowya on Wednesday. The Olympic League Golf Championships run in Sequim on May 12.

In non-league action, Sequim boys performed well in two tournaments.

At the Port Ludlow Invite on April 28, Priest and Shea shot a tournament high 70 at 2-under-par to medal while Sequim finished fourth at 45-over-par. McCracken and Black shot a combined 92 and Josiah Carter and Connor Titterness shot 99 together. Port Angeles won the tournament at 28-over-par after a playoff.

Priest and Shea again took tops at the Duke Streeter Invitational at Peninsula Golf Course on May 1.

The pair shot a 65 at 7-under-par to medal while Arnold Black and Josiah Carter combined for an 81 and Alex McCracken and Jade Arnold shot an 83.
