Sequim battles to Babe Ruth title

Sequim’s Babe Ruth 15-year-olds (at left) celebrate a big win and are headed to the state tournament this week after knocking off Port Angeles in the District 4 tournament in early July.

Sequim was a perfect 3-0 in the District 4 tournament, knocking off Port Angeles 12-6 and North Kitsap 23-3, setting up a showdown (and rematch) against Port Angeles in the championship. Down 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Sequim loaded the bases with two outs. Sequim’s Evan Hurn hit a ball down the first base line that the Port Angeles fielder couldn’t handle and allowed the tying and winning runs to score, a 5-4 Sequim win. It’s Sequim’s second consecutive district title.

Sequim takes on five other teams at the 2013 Northern Washington Babe Ruth tourney, set for July 16-20 in Ephrata.
