Sequim tops Bremerton in senior softball action

The Sequim 7 Cedars/Oasis squad came back from a 7-0 deficit to top Bremerton 11-10 on June 9, kicking off the 2010 Peninsula Senior Softball League season.

In league play the same day, Port Angeles topped Port Townsend 17-12.

Sequim is back in action in a doubleheader June 16 at Carrie Blake Park.

Bourns gets ace

Robert Bourns of Sequim sank a hole-in-one on hole No. 17 at The Cedars at Dungeness on June 10. Bourns aced the 132-yard hole for his second-ever hole-in-one.

Anglers meet Thursday

The Puget Sound Anglers, North Olympic Peninsula Chapter, hosts a presentation by Walt Blendermann entitled, "Trolling Rips for Strait of Juan de Fuca: Selective Chinook and Coho Fisheries This Summer."

The meeting is at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave.

Discussion includes basic downrigger and tackle techniques, with some area descriptions and helping with the harvest of hatchery fish. Pink salmon are not be available this summer, so a different strategy will be needed to harvest the hatchery fish, club members say.

Open volleyball at Stevens

Volleyballers seeking a place to play this summer may want to check out play at Stevens Middle School, 1139 W. 14th St, Port Angeles.

An open gym is scheduled each Friday evening from 7-10 p.m. Players need only sign in on an entry sheet and contribute $1.

Local BMXers place in state race

Several Port Angeles BMX racers participated at a state-qualifying race at SeaTac BMX Track on May 31. Each track hosts its own state race, with riders taking their three best scores to the state final in September.

Ricky Amundson brought home first place in his cruiser class and second place in his 16 expert class.

Kortney Beutler took home first in the 16 girls division while Taylor Tolliver earned second place in the 6 girls bracket. Anthony Johnson took first in the 14 expert class, as did Jason Whiting in the 8 intermediate division. In the 19 cruiser class, Travis Beutler was second.

Also qualifying for their main events were riders Brandyn Fouts, Mariah Fortman, Austin Whiting and Trey Manner. Port Angeles’ BMX Track’s state-qualifying race is set for July 11.

Soccer club brings UK camp to Sequim

Sequim Junior Soccer Club hosts UK International Soccer Camp July 19-23 at Sequim High School soccer fields, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

All players ages 5-18 are welcome to attend the weeklong program.

Cost for players is $99 for half-day (9 a.m.-noon) or $144 for full day (9 a.m.-3 p.m.).
