Wagner solid

for Apple Sox

Former Sequim High School baseball standout Chad Wagner is 3-0 with a 1.32 earned-run average in six starts (as of July 20) for the Wenatchee Applesox, a wood-bat summer collegiate league.

Wagner is holding opponents to a .228 batting average while striking out 26 batters. In 41 innings he’s given up just five extra base hits and seven walks.

Wagner graduated from Sequim High School in 2006 and pitches for the University of Hawaii-Pacific Sea Warriors.

SARC offers free

circuit training

Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center is offering a free circuit room orientation this summer at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Preregistration is required; maximum enrollment is six. Participants must be at least 16 years old and may register by calling SARC at 683-3344, x16.

The orientations run through Aug. 27.

tennis tourney set

The Peninsula Tennis Club hosts the 24th-annual Saundra Kent Memorial Tennis tournament, scheduled for two weekends this summer.

The weekend of July 31-Aug. 2 features singles and super senior doubles ( 62 years and older). The weekend of Aug. 7-9 features men’s, women’s and mixed doubles.

The first-round matches begin at 5:30 p.m. on July 31 and Aug. 7.

The tournament is at Erickson Park Courts at Fourth and Race streets in Port Angeles.

Cost is $20 per event for tennis club members, $25 per event for nonmembers. Funds raised go for college scholarships that are awarded to high school tennis players.

Robin Hill fun run set

A five-kilometer fun run/walk is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Robin Hill Park.

The race requires no participation fee; no awards are given. Runners and walkers are asked to meet in the Pinnell Road parking lot.

Open trail event set

The Wild Angels 4-H Horse Club of Jefferson County is hosting an open competitive trail trial at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25.

The competition is held at property off Discovery Road between Highway 20 (Four Corners Road) and Discovery Golf Club in Port Townsend.

The trail trial consists of a variety of obstacles; riders are scored on how well they and their horse negotiate each obstacle.

Cost is $25.

Awards are presented shortly after the last rider finishes the course. Concessions will be available.

SHS cross country hosts car washes

Sequim High School cross country team members are hosting a pair of car washes this summer to raise funds for a competition in Seaside, Ore.

The first car wash is from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, July 25. The second is from 9 a.m.-

1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22.

Both car washes are at Chase Bank, formerly Washington Mutual Bank, 680 W. Washington St.

NFL Flag opens registration for fall league

The Sequim NFL Flag fall league is open to boys and girls of ages 6-12.

The co-ed league with multiple age divisions runs from Sept. 3-Nov. 2 with games at the Sequim High School playfields, 601 N. Sequim Ave., during afternoons.
