Storm King soccer squad wins again

The Storm King 95 girls’ U18 soccer team continued its winning ways on March 3 with a convincing 6-2 win over a visiting Seattle United team from Shoreline.

During the team’s five-game winning streak, Storm King 95 has outscored their opponents 22-3 and they quickly got on the board on Sunday. At the four-minute mark Vianey Cadenas placed a corner kick into the middle of the box. Waverly Shreffler’s shot was blocked and the rebound fell to Maeve Harris who slotted the ball home from four yards.

United tied the score six minutes later on a penalty kick, but Cadenas put Storm King up for good less than 10 minutes later when she received a pass from Harris 35 yards from goal and lofted a shot over the United goal keeper.

The defensive unit, led by Cadenas and including Cami Raber, Mattie Clark, Shae Barrett and Justice Moore, held United to just four shots for the rest of the game.

The goalkeeper-by-committee process continued with Raber playing in goal the first half and Gretchen Happe tending the net in the second half.

The final goals came from the boot of Shelby Lott who exploded for four goals in 50 minutes to bring her team-leading tally to nine goals. Lott’s second goal came off a pass from Sydney Porlier for her first assist of the season.

The other three assists came from Harris, who now has 12 assists to go with six scores. The Harris-to-Lott combination has produced five goals in the last two games.

Storm King 95 travels to Woodinville next week before wrapping up its season on Sunday, March 17, at home at Peninsula College’s Sigmar Field at 2 p.m.
