Business showcase

The Sequim-Dungeness Chamber of Commerce’s 12th-annual Business Showcase is set for 5-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Guy Cole Convention Center at Carrie Blake Community Park.

With the theme “Come Sail Away!” the event is an exhibition for chamber members’ products to other business owners and the community. It features food, beverages, games and more.

The event is free and community members are welcome.

Bee Farm among semifinalists in edg3 FUND competition

Kitsap Bank has announced the five finalists in the fifth annual edg3 FUND Small Business Competition, including Sequim Bee Farm.

These companies, chosen in part by a public vote, move on to compete in the final phase of the competition, edg3 FUND Live, on Nov. 15 at the Kitsap Conference Center at Harborside in Bremerton. There, finalists present their pitches before a live audience and an independent panel of judges; the winner is awarded with $20,000.

Other companies named semifinalists include: Kodama Farm & Food Forest (Chimacum), Wood Originals (Bremerton), Compost Manufacturing Alliance (Port Orchard) and HandiMaps (Renton).

The mission of edg3 FUND is to recognize entrepreneurs dedicated to growing their community in three ways: economically, socially and environmentally.

Revenue offers free tax workshop Oct. 16 in Port Angeles

Business owners in Washington are responsible for knowing which taxes to report. To help them, the Washington State Department of Revenue (Revenue) is hosting a free workshop for new and small business owners Oct. 16 in Port Angeles.

The workshop is set for 9 a.m.-noon at the Clallam Transit System Conference Room, 830 West Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

Participants learn about Washington excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, sales tax collection and record-keeping requirements. Attendees receive a workbook and helpful reference guide to Revenue’s rules and regulations. Also, attendees may earn two continuing professional education credits.
