Grange sets dinner

The Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, serves a spaghetti dinner from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17. Cost is $10 per person for a meal including spaghetti, green salad, garlic bread, ice cream and cookies.

Area Shelter Providers to meet Feb. 15

Street outreach’s impact on homelessness and the community will be the lead discussion topic at the Feb. 15 meeting of the Shelter Providers Network of Clallam County. The group meets 10-11:30 a.m. in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Legislative issues and the recent Housing and Homelessness Advocacy Day in Olympia, preliminary impressions from the Annual Point In Time count of homeless people, and news of other services, housing and funding developments round out the agenda. All who are interested in ending homelessness in Clallam County are welcome. Sign-in begins at 9:45 a.m. There is no charge to attend.

County commission to meet

The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. The agenda includes discussion of facts and findings about amending vacation rental standards and adding new bed and breakfast inn standards, and a review of Rural Land Zoning Land Use Table and Development Standards. FBLA, Sportsfit host workout fundraiser

Sequim High School’s Future Business Leaders of America students are raising funds to attend a state conference and are inviting the community to a workout fundraiser at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Sportsfit Center, 1102 E. Washington St., Sequim. Admission is $10 per person for a 55-minute workout. Funds will allow for FBLA members to pay for traveling fees and admission fees to the state conference and competition in Spokane from April 19-22.

Opioids/HIV forum planned in Port Angeles

Port Angeles Citizen Action Network, commonly known as PA Can, will be holding a community forum called “Opioids & HIV.” The forum will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Landing Mall conference room, 115 E. Railroad Ave., Port Angeles. Discuss, learn and hear from the experts on opioids and HIV. As substance abuse rises, so do infectious diseases. The forum will be presented by Dr. Christopher Frank from the Clallam County Health Department and North Olympic Healthcare Network. Caregivers classes set

Another series of classes of “Powerful Tools for the Caregiver” will be held weekly, on Wednesdays, beginning March 1-April 5 at the Latter-Day Saints Church, 815 W. Washington St., in Sequim. The classes are intended for family caregivers to teach them self-care practices so they can better serve their loved one while maintaining their own well-being. Attendance at all six classes is highly recommended. The classes are free, but a book is required at a cost of $32. Registration and payment for the book are required by Feb. 22 and can be done by contacting Wanda Bean at 919-616-0302.

Schools seeking input on parent guide

The Sequim School District is seeking input about the effectiveness of its annual printed Parent Guide and Calendar. By using the link www.surveymonkey.com/r/MFPL3KF, individuals quickly can complete a survey with eight questions. There is a link to the survey on the main page of the district website at www.sequim.k12.wa.us. The survey will be up and available through Feb. 22.

Hospital Guild thrift shop open Saturday

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild’s Thrift Shop, 204 W. Bell St. in Sequim, will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18. Featured will be furniture with accessories, fine china and kitchen ware, winter clothing for everyone, designer handbags and jewelry and much more. All white-tagged items will be marked half-price. NPBA gears up for Expo

The North Peninsula Building Association will have its 20th annual Building, Remodeling &Energy Expo on Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 18-19, with Saturday hours 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday hours 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Sequim High School, 601 N. Sequim Ave. There is free admission and parking and food to purchase will be available.

Exotic animals focus of talk at OPHS

The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society is sponsoring a presentation focusing on exotic mammals. Dr. Alicia McLaughlin, a veterinarian specializing in exotic animals, will be the presenter. The event is at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at OPHS, 1743 Old Olympic Highway. There is no cost to attend. McLaughlin is an associate veterinarian at the Center for Bird and Exotic Animal Medicine in Bothell. For more information about OPHS or to volunteer, call 457-8206.

Trinity United hosts monthly dinner

A free community dinner will be served at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., Sequim. The meal includes lemon honey baked chicken, rice, vegetables, coleslaw, dessert and beverages. Reservations are required and may be made by phoning the church at 683-5367 between 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the dinner or by email to dinners tumc@aol.com. The church presents the dinners on the last Thursday of each month.

Dementias class on tap

A class on Alzheimer’s and other dementias, their prevention and treatment, will be from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. The cost is $75; to register, call Artemis Celt at 360-379-1013.

Senior menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., on Tuesdays-Fridays. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491.
