League, libraries set primary election candidate forums

The Clallam County League of Women Voters, along with co-sponsor North Olympic Library System, will facilitate three 2021 Primary Election candidate forums for Sequim-area races from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, on Zoom.

The forums will include candidates for Sequim School District-director at large (forum 1), Clallam County Fire District 3 commissioner (forum 2) and Hospital District 2-commissioner-at-large (forum 3).

Those interested in posing questions to the candidates are asked to submit them to info@lwvcla.org by 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, with the forum number (see above) in the subject line. When submitting forum questions, participants are asked to include one’s full name within the email.

At each forum, candidates in attendance will be invited to provide their qualifications, state why they are running, and state their goals for the office, if elected. The forum moderator will then pose questions from the public.

Zoom links and access information are accessible directly from the Clallam County League of Voters website at lwvcla.club express.com/candidate_ forums.

“The three forums held on one night will help voters become better informed about the candidates running for these positions,” league representatives said in a press release last week.

Forum times and candidates include:

• Sequim School District, 6 p.m. — Derek Huntington and Rachel Tax; Virginia R. Sheppard declined, Kristi Schmeck withdrew her nomination

• Fire District 3, 6:40 p.m. — Duane Chamlee, Jeff Nicholas and Sean Ryan

• Hospital District, 7:20 p.m. — Steven C. Blackham, Heather Jeffers and Karen Rogers

Each forum will be recorded and will be made available for viewing shortly after the event on the League’s website at lwvcla.clubexpress.com/ candidate_forums.

The League of Women Voters is a national nonpartisan, nonprofit organization whose purpose is “to promote the informed and active participation of citizens in government.”
