They weren’t on the winning end of the Oct. 4 match-up with league-leading North Kitsap, but Sequim’s Wolves earned plenty of strong finishes and personal best times.
SHS junior Sonja Govertsen set a personal best with a first place finish in the 50 free (25.35) by .19 seconds, and placed second in the 100 free with a personal best of 56.55 (by .44 seconds), improving both of her state meet-qualifying efforts in the 127-43 loss to the visiting Vikings (5-0).

Sequim (2-2-1) saw its 200 freestyle relay team of Govertsen, Jasmine Itti, Sidney Swanson and Mia Coffman place second, qualifying for state with a time of 1:48.32.
Coffman, a freshman, took second in the 500 free with a 5:37.33 — also a state-qualifying swim and personal best by nearly four seconds — and Sequim’s 400 free relay team place second, about 2.5 seconds off a state-qualifying mark.
Sequim’s Sydney Swanson clocked in her 100 breaststroke swim in 1:20.90, a personal best by about 1.5 seconds and a district meet-qualifying time.
In the 100 free, Sequim teammates Lauren Sundin (1:07.95) and Petra Bernsten (1:23.69) both improved their season bests by more than three-and-a-half seconds.
Other Wolves improving their season bests included: Claire Cronin in the 200 free (2:34.68) and 500 free (6:54.05); Khelea Cloetens in the 50 free (30.54) and 100 free (1:09.33); Eislynn Flood in the 500 free (7:00.12); Aleah Chen (32.00) and Madeline Patterson in the 50 free (33.08); Anna Price (1:18.53) and Morgan Cariou in the 100 fly (1:31.06), and Chayil Briggs in the 100 free (1:59.91).
