Sequim swimmers took first place in eight of 11 events as the Wolves, celebrating their seniors in their final home meet, topped the visiting Bremerton Knights 103-60.

Sonja Govertsen and Mia Coffman picked up two first-place swims each, with Govertsen posting state-qualifying swimming on both 50 free (25.71) and 100 free (57.48), and Coffman earning a state-qualifying time in the 500 free (5:40.68) and district qualifier in the 200 free (2:11.17).

Sequim’s Sydney Swanson also picked up a first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.32), a district qualifier.

Coffman, Govertsen, Swanson and Jasmine Itti earned a state berth in the 200 medley relay as well with their 2:01.47 mark, while Coffman, Govertsen, Itti and Anna Price nearly did the same in the 200 free relay with a 1:49.27 effort, less than a second off a state mark.

In all, Sequim posted four state and nine district qualifying marks against the Knights.

The Wolves finished the season 4-2-1, fittingly tied for third place in the Olympic League with Olympic — the team they tied 83-83 on Sept. 11, the season opener.

Looking ahead

Sequim was slated to swim at the “last chance qualifier” Divisional Invite at Port Angeles on Oct. 23.

Qualified individuals and relay teams from the Olympic and South Puget Sound leagues vie for top spots at the West Central District 2A meet at Hazen High School in Renton on Nov. 2-3. Top finishers there and other qualified swimmers advance to the class 2A state meet, set for Nov. 9-10 in Federal Way.

Last season, Sequim placed 18th as a team on the strength of Govertsen’s fourth place in the 50 free (25.24), sixth place in the 100 free (55.78) and the 200 medley relay — Govertsen, Itti, Swanson and Sydnee Linnane — placing 11th (1:59.54).
