Prep sports: SHS boys golf wins, baseball and girls golf fall

SHS golf splits

After a one-week respite, Sequim’s boys golf squad got back to its winning ways with a 160-209 victory (low score wins) at home against Bremerton on April 8.

Senior Blake Wiker shot an even-par 36 for medalist honors as the Wolves improved to 4-0 on the season and ran their league winning streak to 37. Taking second was SHS freshman Ben Sweet with a round of 40, while Sequim’s Joe Grasser was third with a career-low 42.

Sequim’s girls golf (2-2) squad lost 188-228 at undefeated Olympic (6-0) on April 8.

Brittany Gale paced Sequim with a nine-hole round of 53 while Yana Hoesel and Madison Uranga each shot 58s.

Baseball falls

Sequim High’s baseball squad saw a slim lead slip away after visiting 4A Glacier Peak scored seven runs in the fifth inning as the Grizzlies took an 11-7 win during a rather rainy non-league match-up on April 8.

Despite five walks allowed, SHS sophomore Caleb Pozernick gave the Wolves a strong start, giving up one unearned run and one hit and striking out five on three innings, working out of a bases-loaded jam in the second.

Johnnie Young did damage at the plate, as the SHS senior clubbed three hits — two of them doubles — and scored three times. Brandon Barnett and Michael Grubb each had doubles and drove in two runs.
