Animal benefit sale

Center Valley Animal Rescue, a no-kill shelter and wildlife rehab facility, is seeking donated items for its March 15 garage sale: gently used furniture, house wares, tools, artwork, collectibles, jewelry, books, music, toys, sporting goods, linens. Sorry, we cannot accept clothing, electronics or exercise equipment. All proceeds benefit the animals. Donations must be received by March 12. Vendors needed for annual Elegant Flea

The 39th annual Elegant Flea Antique and Collectibles Sale, sponsored by the Sequim Prairie Grange, will be from noon-7 p.m. Thursday, March 13; and from 9-3 p.m. Friday-Saturday, March 14-15, at 290 Macleay Road, Sequim. Vendor tables are $40 per table for all three days. Limited tables with electrical outlets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. No refunds after March 1. Learn to banish stress

Azella invites you to banish negative influences and energies in a class on sea salt showers, bubbles of protection and sageing from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in the meeting room at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. The fee is $10, the first $5 paid by Wednesday, Feb. 26, and the balance at the class. Class is limited to 10. Call Azella at 681-3191 for information and arrangements.

Bunco fundraiser set

The Olympic Medical Center Auxiliary presents a bunco fund-raiser from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Port Angeles. There will be door and bunco prizes, a 50/50 raffle and light refreshments. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door. All proceeds benefit OMC.

Hear library building plans

The North Olympic Library System regular board meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles. Kevin Kane of SHKS Architects will make a final report on the Sequim Library needs assessment and feasibility study.

Strait ERN meets

The next quarterly meeting of the Strait of Juan de Fuca Ecosystem Recovery Network (Strait ERN) is scheduled from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe’s Red Cedar Hall located within its Community Center on Old Blyn Highway in Blyn. Agenda items include speakers on Salmon Recovery Monitoring & Adaptive Management and Implementing a Dashboard of Vital Signs for Recovery of the Puget Sound Ecosystem. In addition, a short film will be shown on the impact of land application of wastewater treatment plant sludge. The public is encouraged to attend the free quarterly meetings of the Strait ERN.

Free workshop

The Stop the Checkpoints monthly meeting will be from 2-3:30 p.m Saturday, March 1, at the Museum at the Carnegie, 207 S. Lincoln St., Port Angeles. There will be a free workshop on how to write effective letters to the editor — with samples and hands-on assistance. The public is welcome.

Spring gardening for birds

The fifth in the series of eight classes in “Backyard Birding” will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, Railroad Bridge Park. Enid and Bob Phreaner and Gary Bullock will provide information about preparing garden settings and plants that may attract migrating and resident birds. Following the presentation, participants are invited to tour McComb Gardens to see a variety of garden areas and plants available in the Pacific Northwest. Cost of each session is $5 and is free for anyone under 18.
