Olympic Coast Discovery to train volunteers

Training to become a docent for the Olympic Coast Discovery Center will be held from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesdays, April 25-May 23, at the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary classroom on the second floor of The Landing Mall, 115 E. Community dinner at new time

A new time — 6 p.m. — has been set for the free community dinners held on the last Thursday of each month at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim. The April 26 dinner includes baked tilapia and macaroni with cheese.

Reservations are requested; phone the church at 683-5367 between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the dinner or e-mail dinners@sequimtumc.org.

Creative thinking workshop offered

The Olympic Region Municipal Clerks Association sponsors “Getting Outside the Box: How Critical and Creative Thinking Skills Can Change Your Life” by Dr. Monica Dixon from 9 a.m.-noon Thursday, April 26, at the Sequim Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St. Cost is $75 and preregistration is required.

City discusses city hall/ police projects

The Sequim City Council holds a special meeting from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Sequim Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St., for a consultant presentation on the proposed Sequim Police Department and City Hall. The consultant will provide conceptual designs and alternatives.

Boys & Girls Club holds rummage sale

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula, CCK Unit in Sequim holds a rummage sale from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the club, 400 W. Fir St. Proceeds benefit Torch Club, a group for middle-school members that focuses on community service, club service, fundraising and social recreation.

Genealogical library adds hours

The Clallam County Genealogical Society Research Library, 931 Ninth St., Port Angeles, opens from noon-4 p.m. Saturday, April 28, for members and non-members to access genealogical sources. Volunteers are on hand to assist.

The Research Library also can be reached at 417-5000 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.

‘Biomass 101 for Families’ scheduled

The Clallam County Healthy Air Coalition hosts a town hall meeting, “Biomass 101 for Families,” from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim. Presenters Bob Lynette, co-chairman of the North Olympic Group of Sierra Club, and Diana Somerville, science writer and columnist for the Sequim Gazette, discuss health impacts of the biomass plants planned for the Olympic Peninsula.

Clallam Democrats plan sub-caucus

The Democratic Party’s 24th Legislative District sub-caucus in Clallam County takes place at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 29, at Port Angeles High School, 304 E. Park Ave. Delegates elected at precinct caucuses on April 15 are eligible to vote, but other interested Democrats also are encouraged to attend. OMC Auxiliary offers Miche Bags

Olympic Medical Center Auxiliary offers Miche Bags at its special fundraising event from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, in the main lobby of Olympic Medical Center, 939 Caroline St., Port Angeles; and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, in the main lobby of the Sequim Medical Services Building, 840 N. Fifth Ave. Proceeds benefit the OMC Auxiliary.

Safe-driving class runs monthly

Each month AARP offers a Driving Safety Class in Sequim to all adults 55 and older. The next class is from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Red Cross Office,151 Ruth’s Place, Suite 1C. Plan to bring a sack lunch.

Cost is $12 for AARP members, $14 for nonmembers. To register, call the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 683-6806.

Carnival wristbands go on sale

Irrigation Festival Carnival wristbands are available in Sequim until May 9 at the early-bird price of just $20 at Sound Community Bank, KeyBank (Sequim), Pacific Mist Books and the chamber of commerce Visitor Information Center. Wristbands are good for one full day of access to all carnival rides. The carnival is May 10-13.

Transition Fair scheduled for disabled students

Agencies and businesses from the Olympic Peninsula converge to discuss job opportunities, education and services with developmentally disabled high school students at the 13th annual Transition Fair from 10 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the Vern Burton Community Center, 321 E. Crime Stoppers elects board, seeks members

North Olympic Crime Stoppers has elected new board members for a three-year term: Tim Riley, president; Troy Ott, vice president; Gary Bruner, secretary; and Chuck Standley, treasurer.

OMC Auxiliary offers scholarships

The Olympic Medical Center Auxiliary will award two $1,000 scholarships for 2012. Applications are available at www.olympicmedical.org and www.pencol.edu and are due May 18.
