Peninsula Singers celebrate Lent with The Redeemer

Peninsula Singers presents three performances of Martin Shaw’s oratorio “The Redeemer” this weekend for the Lent season.

The first performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Independent Bible Church, 112 N. Lincoln St. Port Angeles.

Trinity United Methodist Church 100 S. Blake Ave., hosts two performances: the first at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, and the second at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25.  

Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, and children under 12 are free.

Tickets for the three performances are available at The Itty Bitty Buzz in Port Angeles, The Buzz in Sequim, and at the performance.  

“The Redeemer” is divided into three parts: the conflict of good and evil, the agony and the betrayal, and the crucifixion.  

Tenors Brian Doig and Trent Pomeroy tell the story throughout the performance.

Dewey Ehling conducts the performances. Joel Yelland portrays Jesus.

Soloists include Marilyn Sterbick, Elizabeth Perez, Linda Grubb, Karen Pritchard, Vicki Helwick, Karla Messerschmidt Morgan, Glenn Wiggins and Jack Anderson.

North Olympic Library System borrowed the music through interlibrary loan from the University of Alaska, Anchorage,for the performances.

The concert will be dedicated to former member Denise Graham, who died of cancer.
