Red Cross seeks volunteers

Recent threatening winter storms highlight the need for local trained volunteers able to respond to disasters in Clallam County. An information session where local volunteers are available to share experiences about the Red Cross and opportunities available in the local chapter, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, in the McCarver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., and at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, at the Red Cross office, 151 Ruth’s Place, Carlsborg.
Free training is provided to participants who volunteer with the disaster team and assist local fire and governmental responders. Training includes responding to disaster events, shelter operations, participation in disaster prevention and collaboration with governmental and community agencies. This training and experience can qualify responders to assist with emergencies on the state and national levels.
Red Cross volunteers respond to local disaster incidents such as fire, flooding or damage to homes during winter storms. Trained disaster volunteers assist families and individuals who are impacted by disasters in the Port Angeles/Sequim area with immediate aid for recovery.
