2A champ Kingston sinks Sequim, 3-0

The second season begins now.

With a No. 2 seed from the Olympic League’s 2A division, Sequim gets a "home" playoff game this week against Washington or Interlake, the No. 3 seed from the Nisqually League.

The two teams battle at Civic Field in Port Angeles on May 13, with the winner moving on to play undefeated Steilacoom for a berth to the state 2A playoffs.

With the Olympic League’s top 2A seed locked up, Kingston shut out Sequim 3-0 on May 6 in Kingston.

The Buccaneers got a first-half goal from Nick Boles and second-half scores from Riley Anderson and Josh Bell.

The Wolves were scheduled to play North Mason on May 10 at home to close out the regular season, their final tune-up for the playoffs (see box). Results of the North Mason game were unavailable at press time.

Bremerton knocked off North Kitsap 2-0 on May 6 for the overall Olympic League championship.

Wolves edge Eagles in Silverdale

Down 1-0 to league doormat Klahowya, Sequim rebounded in time to post their sixth league win of the season, getting the game-winner from Michael Lee in the 66th minute for a 2-1 win on May 5.

Klahowya took a 1-0 lead at the 22-minute mark but Sequim got an equalizer before the first-half whistle when Waylon Lam found Evan Watkins for a score six minutes later.

Lee’s score, a header off a pass from an Aldo Garcia corner kick, was his first goal of the season.

SHS hosts playoff game Thursday

Sequim hosts Washington, the Nisqually League’s No. 3 seed,or Interlake on Thursday, May 13, at Port Angeles’ Civic Field in a winner-advances, loser-out contest. Game time is 6:45 p.m. The winner of that contest plays Steilacoom, Nisqually League’s No. 1 seed at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, at Franklin Pierce Stadium for a ticket to the class 2A state tournament.
