Published 2:13 pm Friday, March 21, 2014

The Wapiti Bowmen Archery Club, a family oriented club dedicated to the promotion of the sport of archery since 1964, is hosting its annual Safari/3-D archery shoot on Saturday and Sunday, April 3-4.

The tournament, consisting of 28 Safari targets and 22 full-size 3-D animals (such as elk, deer and even a dinosaur) is set at marked distances along a trail meandering throughout the range’s 20 wooded acres at 374 E. Arnette Road. Port Angeles. Camping is available onsite.

The course’s uphill, downhill and cross-creek shots make for a challenging and fun weekend for everyone, organizers say.

The event includes door prizes and awards for all age groups, from youths to seniors, and a raffle drawing for a Rinehart "Monster Muley Buck" 3-D target valued at $600. Tickets are $5 each; only 300 are to be sold. All proceeds go to the club to purchase more 3-D targets. The drawing is June 6.

Club members have year-round access to the 28 field targets at ranges from 35 feet to 80 yards with realistic uphill, downhill and level shooting conditions. Also available is a heated 20-yard indoor range, a clubhouse and an outdoor practice range of 10-70 yards.

The aim is to provide a comfortable and friendly atmosphere for all archers regardless of age, equipment or skill level.
