Christina Bruce, a 2009 graduate of Sequim High School, became the first female athlete in University of Great Falls history to qualify for the NAIA outdoor track and field nationals.

Bruce joined teammate Cullen Cantwell in qualifying for the national meet slated for May 27-29 in Wesleyan, Ind., after running qualifying times at the Battlin’ Bear Half Marathon in Billings, Mont., on March 20.

Bruce, a freshman majoring in psychology, finished in 1:35:06, a provisional qualifying mark in the women’s half-marathon. Cantwell, a junior, finished in 1:13:58.

Both Bruce and Cant-well set school records in the process, said Jim Brewer, track and field coach at the university in Great Falls, Mont.

During her senior year at Sequim High School, Bruce helped the Wolves finish fourth overall at the state cross-country championship. She competed at the state cross country championships all four of her high school years.
