So much for rust.

Sequim’s fastpitch squad started defending their state 2A title with a 20-0, mercy rule-shortened thrashing of Klahowya on March 20.

Hannah Grubb was 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, Demiree Briones had four hits — three of them doubles — and Rylleigh Zbaraschuk homered as the Wolves broke open a 4-0 game with 11 runs in the third inning.

Alexas Besand also had three hits and drove in three runs.

Sequim was 8-for-8 in steals.

Briones earned the win on the mound, striking out six Eagles and giving up just two hits and two walks in five innings.

Sequim is back in action today (March 21) at North Kitsap and at home Thursday against Kentlake.
