Highline sweeps Pirate squads

The problem with holding a top ranking – and in the case of Peninsula College’s men’s soccer squad, the highest in the NWAACC – is that big target on the back.
Highline found that bull’s-eye last week, knocking off the Pirate men 1-0 while the Thunderbird women did the same to P.C.’s No. 8-ranked women.
On the men’s side, Highline’s Hansol Park scored the lone goal 40 minutes into the contest while keeper Bryan Murray and the Thunderbird defense blanked the Pirates, the first tie P.C.’s been shut out since Sept. 2.
On the women’s side, Highline’s Alex Drazic got the game-winner at the 35-minute mark and keeper Brianna Slavik made it stick, closing the gap between the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the NWAACC West to a single point. With a win against Southwest Oregon three days later (and Peninsula with a bye) Highline slipped ahead of the Pirates for the No. 2 spot in the division.
Both Peninsula squads look to get back on track Oct. 13 in Bremerton against Olympic. The Pirates host NWAACC West division powerhouse Bellevue on Oct. 16 at Civic Field in Port Angeles.
