Klahhane gymnasts compete at ‘Pink Elephant’

Fifteen gymnasts from the Port Angeles-based Klahhane Gymnastics squad compete at the Pink Elephant Invitational on Feb. 13 at Olympic Gymnastics Center in Silverdale.
Danica Miller dominated the Level 4 competition, sweeping every event and the all-around in the 10-year-old age group. MIller racked up scores of 9.35 on vault, 8.4 on uneven bars, 8.3 on balance beam and a 9.0 on floor exercise for a combined 35.05 all-around score.
Karlie Gochnour was second in the same age group with a 31.2 all-around score.
Haylee Ward and Sydney Miner placed second and third in the 7-9 age group with all-around scores of 32.45 and 31.5, respectively.
Miller, Gochnour, Miner and Ward qualified for the North Sectional competition in Everett on March 27-28.
In Level 5 competition, Lillian Oden and Nikki Price qualified for the sectional meet after posting all-around scores of 32.0 and 31.4.
Maya Wharton claimed the all-around title in the Level 6, 10-12 age group and qualified to the sectional meet with a 31.8 all-around score.
Emily Giammalva claimed the vault title in the Level 7’s 12-and-older age group with a 9.35 score. She finished fifth overall.
Giammalva has qualified for the Level 7 state meet on March 20 at Seattle Pacific University.
Also competing for Klahhane were Christine Beirne, Jocelyn Reifenstahl and Laura Rooney in Level 4; Saige Hefton and Cami Ortloff in Level 5; Emily Van Dyken in Level 6; and Clarissa Preston in Level 7.
