Like their Seattle Mariner counterparts, the Sequim Les Schwab Mariners boys majors squad aren’t known for their power.
Unlike their older fellow ballplayers, however, these Mariners have been known to put a win streak together.
The Les Schwab-sponsored squad went 14-2 this spring, outscoring opponents by a 90-45 count.
"The great thing about this team is that we didn’t just count on one or two kids to help us win," manager Rick Dryke said. "Every player on this team contributed to our team success."
Coaches included Scott Harker and Brian Pace.
Dryke said this is the best team he’s managed in his eight years of coaching.
"Whether they won or lost, they were well behaved and showed great sportsmanship," he said. "I received compliments from umpires and other coaches on how well they played and how they acted. I know it was a great year because all the kids improved their baseball skills. The baseball season was way too short this year."
