Local BMX athletes ride strong at state

Port Angeles BMX riders fared well at state championship races in Bakerview and McCullom Park in Everett on July 31.

Maddie Cooke brought home first place at each track in the 7 girls class, putting her in the lead for the state championship final. Mariah Fortman brought home second and third place in the 10-year-old girls division.

Ricky Amundson got a first place in the cruiser class at Bakerview and a second place in his 20-inch division at McCullom.

Anthony Johnson brought home first in his 14-year-old, 20-inch class.

Brady Shimko earned a second and third place in the 11 novice class.

At the Bakerview track, Jericho Stuntz placed third and Tee-Jay Johnson finished forth.

Trenton Owen placed fourth at McCullom.

Don Knapp received a second at the McCullom track, battling the masses of 41- to 45-year-old cruisers class.

Robert Williams received third at McCullom, making him the only contender in the 51- to 55-year-old cruiser class.

Travis Beulter brought home a third in his 17-20 cruiser class.

Geri Thompson finished with a third at Bakerview.
