Middle school boys varsity splits

Sequim Middle School’s varsity boys basketball squads earned a split of games at Chimacum on Dec. 13.

The seventh-grade team topped Chimacum 51-34, led by Jackson Oliver (11 points, five assists) and Alex Nielsen (10 points, nine rebounds).

Chimacum’s undefeated eighth-grade squad topped Sequim 61-59 in overtime, getting a pair of free throws with 0.4 seconds to play.

Sequim looked to have the momentum after outscoring Chimacum 23-14 in the fourth quarter and getting a 3-pointer from Alex Barry at the end of regulation to force overtime.

Barry had 34 points, 11 steals and seven rebounds. Josh McConnaughey had 12 rebounds.
