Prevost named division MVP

For a team loaded with offensive stars, Peninsula College’s best player may be one who does his best work keeping other teams out of the Pirate goal.

Steve Prevost, a sophomore central defender, was named the NWAACC West division’s Most Valuable Player – a rarity that a defenseman earns such an honor.

Prevost joins teammate Steve Williams as NWAACC all-stars at the conference’s all-star game on Dec. 5 in Vancouver, Wash.

Prevost, a Poulsbo native, finished with one goal and four assists, but it was his key role for the P.C. defense that drew respect from league players and coaches. He led a Pirate back line

that gave up just 11 goals all year in league play with three shutouts.

Williams, also a sophomore, finished the season with six goals and four assists on the year. Williams is from Nairobi, Kenya.

Three other Pirates were named to the NWAACC West All-Region team.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jase Hall, who recorded three league shutouts, 99 saves and allowed 0.85 goals per game in 13 conference contests.

Freshman Aaron Oppeltz, a defender, tied for the team lead with eight assists and equaled a school mark with three assists in a single game, achieving that feat twice in 2009.

Brent Ricigliano, a freshman midfielder, also was named to the all-region team. He was fourth on the team with four goals.
