The Sequim Babe Ruth all-star 14-year-olds opened the state tournament in Port Angeles with a 14-5 win against Moses Lake Thursday.

They had opened up a 5-0 lead by the fifth inning before a pair of costly errors helped Moses Lake close the gap to 5-4.

Sequim’s offense, however, would not be denied, as they torched Moses Lake pitching for nine runs in the final two innings.

Sequim takes on the Skagit Sox today and play Sedro Woolley on Saturday.

The top two teams from the four National Division teams take on the top two in the American Division — Olympic (Port Angeles), Ellensburg, North Kitsap and Oak Harbor — on Sunday for the state title and a chance to advance to regionals.
