Sequim rules lanes, topples Peninsula

Not a bad way to start the new year.

Despite some low scores, Sequim’s bowling squad swept Peninsula 7-0 on Jan. 6 to run the Wolves’ record to 5-6 in league and overall.

Sequim’s beat their Gig Harbor rivals this season.

Sam Whiteside led the Wolves with a 321-pin series and 181-pin finish in game one, a game Sequim won, 683-535. The Wolves took game two, 615-463, getting 141 pins from Kim Duce.

Duce finished with 287 pins, followed by Alex White-side (241), Lola Macia (226) and Sage Brown (223).

Sequim coach Randy Perry said the winter break layoff gave Sequim players a little rest, but also a little rust.

"It was a little inconsistent, as usual," he said.

The Wolves won both Baker-format games, 101-81 and 145-124.

Katy Brandt led Peninsula with a 224-pin series.

Just two teams from the Olympic League tourney on Jan. 26 advance to the district tournament four days later. With state powerhouses Olympic and Bremerton likely taking those top two spots, Perry said he’s hoping the Wolves can finish the season well and have some of his individual players make a run in the postseason.

"Kim, Alex and Sam, they’re going to have to step it up individually," Perry said.

Sequim was scheduled to host Klahowya on Jan. 12 – results were unavailable at press time.

The Wolves host North Mason on Jan. 14 in their final home match of the season. They travel to Bremerton on Jan. 19 and to Olympic on Jan. 21.
