Athletic acumen and ace arithmetic skills.

Sequim student-athletes racked up 265 points and placed 27th among 55 participating 2A schools in the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association’s 2009-2010 Scholastic Cup.

The association recognizes performance in the classroom as well as on the playing surface through the Scholastic Cup. Schools that finish at the top of their respective classifications in state athletic competition receive points, as do schools that finish at the top in team academic performance.

The Wolves earned points in five athletic and four academic categories, with both boys soccer and boys tennis teams earning points for the school in both categories.

Sequim scored more Scholastic Cup points than any other Olympic League school, 2A or 3A.

Port Angeles tied for 45th among 64 participating 3A schools.

Archbishop Murphy took home the 2A Scholastic Cup title with 1,495 points, earning academic state championships in boys golf, choir, girls swimming and softball, and a state girls soccer championship. Bellingham was second.

Other Scholastic Cup 2010-2011 champions include Mead (4A), Mercer Island (3A), King’s (1A), Bear Creek School (2B) and Mount Rainier Lutheran (1B).
