Driftwood show finds sturdy ground

One year at its new location at Sequim Middle School and the Olympic Driftwood Sculptors show saw a big improvement in its attendance.

Cheryl Blackburn, club president, said they saw close to 300 people on Friday alone, which was nearly all of their attendance during the 2012 Lavender Weekend.

“It was a good turnout and we have a full class schedule after one day,” she said.

Crowds were steady through the rest of the weekend, too.

“One lady told us she’s always come here for lavender and it was good to see something different,” Blackburn said.

Many visitors saw driftwood art for the first time, like Dennis Woody of Bremerton. He said it was the highlight of his family’s trip for him.

The show featured 150 pieces of driftwood art in a non-juried show.

Olympic Driftwood Sculptors meets 10 a.m.-1 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month at the Sequim Prairie Grange (Aug. 5 is the next meeting).
