State bans Internet fireworks

State Fire Marshal Charles M. Duffy is reminding Washingtonians that the purchase of fireworks over the Internet is illegal.

In Washington, fireworks must be purchased from a licensed retail fireworks stand during the legal sales period. Orders for fireworks cannot be placed over the Internet or posted on websites such as Craigslist.

Residents should talk with family members and guests about the fireworks laws for their area.

Independence Day is a time to celebrate Americans’ freedoms. Personal fireworks require personal responsibility. Remember the three B’s of fireworks safety:

Be Prepared — Have water nearby and put pets indoors

Be Safe — Only adults should light fireworks

Be Responsible — Clean up fireworks debris
