Calling all weed-pullers

The North Olympic Salmon Coalition seeks volunteers for Weed Warrior Wednesday from 9 a.m.-noon July 15, in Dungeness.

In April, Salmon Coalition volunteers planted native trees and shrubs along the bank of the Dungeness River. As summer hits, weeds have begun cropping up in the newly planted area. Volunteers are needed to help pull the weeds. The plants support salmon habitat by shading the water and preventing stream bank erosion.

The work being done on this property is a component of a larger initiative, the Dungeness River Riparian Recovery Project, led by the Salmon Coalition and the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe.

Tools and gloves will be provided. Bring long pants, comfortable work shoes, water and a lunch. The Salmon Coalition will provide light refreshments.

Access to the planting site is at 1769 E. Anderson Road, across from the Dungeness Schoolhouse.
