Cellist plays PA
Cellist Marlene Moore performs from her solo CD “At Heaven’s Doorstep” from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 10, at Camaraderie Cellars, 332 Benson Road, in Port Angeles. Moore released her album in May which includes a range of cellos from a duet to 16 cellos all played for the recording by Moore. The event is free. Driftwood show during festival
Olympic Driftwood Sculptors will have its free Driftwood Art Show during Sequim Lavender Weekend from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Sunday, July 15-17, at the Sequim Middle School cafeteria, 301 W. Hendrickson Road. Over 100 pieces of driftwood sculpted by ODS members will be on display and in the driftwood boutique there will be handcrafted items for sale.
There will be a raffle for a driftwood piece sculpted by several members.
PC student authors read works
Whether you’re intimidated by the creative writing process, working on fine-tuning a manuscript or just enjoy literature, you are invited to hear local, self-published Peninsula College student authors present readings of their works from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd. In addition to the readings, guests have the opportunity to ask questions about the tools and resources available to publish one’s own work.
Authors featured are Pete Barthel, Marie-Claire Bernards, Michael Henry Drake, Pamela Hastings and Neal Fridley.
Accordionists harmonize
Join fellow accordion players, enthusiasts and dancers for an afternoon of music and fun from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, July 10, at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., Sequim.
Players of all levels are encouraged to bring their accordion and play 1-3 pieces. The intent of the social is to have a supportive and friendly atmosphere, where players can play and everyone can enjoy some great music. The featured player will be David Emter with Sally Frish.
Yoga-themed storytime set
Breathe, stretch, play and sing at a yoga-themed storytime with Jenny Houston of Poser Yoga at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 14, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. Participants ages 3-5 will enjoy stories, learn rhymes and stretch their imaginations during this interactive storytime, part of the annual summer reading program at the North Olympic Library System. This program is one in a series of sports- and fitness-related storytimes taking place Thursdays in July at the Port Angeles Library.
Eclectic collection at book sale
The Friends of Sequim Library will hold its monthly book sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Friends building behind the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
This month’s features are paperback and hardcover mysteries, oversized art books, a group of eight KCTS cookbooks, a three-volume set of Burnham’s Celestial Handbook, bicycle instruction and route books and even a bike training stand for indoor use in rainy weather. A large collection of books about Japan is also available. The books cover Japanese language, history, art, travel, literature, architecture, garden design and bonsai.
Novel set in WWII discussed
“Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand will be discussed at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. “Unbroken” tells the gripping true story of Louis Zamperini, a former Olympian and U.S. airman who was the sole survivor when his bomber crashed into the sea during World War II.

Community Players host tryouts
The Port Angeles Community Players will hold tryouts for the first play of their 64th season — “I Hate Hamlet,” by Paul Rudnick at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd. Three adult men and three adult women are needed for the play about an actor whose television show has been canceled and moves to New York to play a role he hates — Hamlet.
The play will be staged Sept. 23-Oct. 9 and rehearsals will be four nights a week beginning in August. Tryouts consist of reading selected passages from the play script, copies of which are available for reading at the Port Angeles and Sequim libraries.
