Clallam County’s first photography contest has its winners after officials named top entries in the “Show Us Your Weeds Scotch Broom Photography Contest 2016.”

Sponsored by your Clallam County Noxious Weed Control Board, the contest was created to bring awareness to the noxious weed that steadily is overtaking local wildlife habitat.

First place goes to Gretha Davis of Sequim, whose entry features two citizen activists removing towering 10-foot tall blooming scotch brooms from a hillside wilderness area among endangered beneficial native plants that favor wildlife habitat. Davis won dinner for two at Wildfire Grill in Port Angeles.

Second place goes to Roger Mosley of Joyce. His winning photograph focuses on a thicket of golden scotch broom all but burying a weather-beaten fallen tree, a glimpse of a cloud filled sky and the Olympics in the background. He won lunch for two at the Old Mill Cafe in Carlsborg.

Third place goes to Bob Lampert of Sequim. His image of majestic snowcapped Olympic mountains and a stand of giant Douglas-firs overshadowed by a field of brilliant yellow scotch broom illustrates the scale of infestation to the detriment of native plants and wildlife. Lampert won a day of fun for two at the Olympic Game Farm.

Honorable mentions went to Mosley, Bill Wamsley, and Dan and Judy Harvey.
